Starting in 2025, systems using the new refrigerants will become the standard, which could and will drive up the price of a new HVAC systems! What should you know before you buy?

• New HVAC systems manufactured prior to 2025 that use R-410A will possibly be available for a one-year grace period and must be sold and installed by the end of 2025.  (Production of the R-410A systems ended 12-31-24.)
• Parts and components for R-410A air conditioning systems will be available for years to come. 
• R-410A refrigerant will be available going forward at reduced manufactured quantities. The price however may be unpredictable!
• Prices for HVAC systems using the new refrigerants are expected to be more expensive than the previous R-410A systems. Additionally, installation costs could go up as new training and standards may be required for technicians to handle the newer systems.
• R-454B and R-32 have a significantly lower GWP compared to R-410A, meaning they contribute less to global warming. Over time, this can have a positive impact on the environment.
• HVAC systems using the new refrigerants are likely to be more energy efficient, potentially reducing your utility bills in the long run. While you might pay more upfront for a system using R-454B or R-32, the energy savings could offset the higher initial cost over time.
• Do your research and make solid comparisons! Always get multiple estimates from HVAC contractors and compare. Compare the equipment brands, part warranties and labor warranties. Yes, the price is important, but keep in mind your potential long-term success with all the variables to consider.
