A/C Air Flow Restriction – What is it? Why is the amount of air so slow coming out of my a/c system?
What can cause an air flow restriction in your air-conditioning or heating system? The most common reason is a dirty or clogged air filter. The next most common reason is aging air duct work and or lack of knowledge. For example: air duct dampers are installed in the duct work system and the new home owner or business owner is not aware of them, flexible duct pipe has sagged and now has a kink in the run, there is another air filter in the system up in the attic (double filtering), the evaporator coil is older and has never been cleaned, etc.
Or it could be a unwanted object restricting the air flow in the duct work system that is causing poor air flow into the home or a particular room. See the attached picture – this is a good example of an older system that has experienced a problem with the glue that holds the insulation to the side of the sheet metal plenum, when the glue ages it will allow the insulation to come loose and then restrict the air flow. And ultimately your Cooling/Heating or A/C system works harder to keep you comfortable!
So if you have concerns about the amount of air flow in your home or business, call A.I.R. Plus today for an inspection.

If air cannot flow across the evaporator coil which is part of your air conditioning system and normally located inside your indoor unit. Cool air will not be produced! It must be free from debris, dust, dirt, hair and other contaminates. Take a look at the attached picture. This coil was so clogged up it could not longer produce cool air and it soaked the area is was located in with drainage issues from frost/ice issues.
The attached picture is that of a coil so dirty and clogged that when we began to brush the dirt off of it just roll off!
Change your air filters regularly to avoid this, please!

The attached pictures are of Trane equipment. The outdoor A/C unit was in installed in 1984 and has been in service for 31 years. The thermostat was installed 1977 and has been in service for over 38 years. Is this typical?
How long can I expect my A/C – HVAC Equipment to last? That is a very good question and can be challenging to answer.
But, here are some averages:
Condensing Unit – Outdoor A/C Unit = 15 years. (How much it is used and the environment it is in makes all the difference!)
Heat Pump – A/C Outdoor Unit = 12 years. (Double duty for heating and cooling your home.)
Thermostat = 5 years. (Who uses it? Home Owners, Children, Employees, the general public? They all make the difference!)
Gas Furnace = 18 years. ( Once again is determined by usage, environment and how it’s configured with the overall heating needs of the structure it is heating.)
Air Handler w/Electric Heat = 10 years for the electric heat strips and 18 years for the air handler it’s self. (How and where is it used, environment, set-up with heat pump or whether it is used with regular a/c unit all determine its life span.)
Manufactures typically give a life span of 12 to 15 years to most HVAC Equipment. The key to system longevity is regular maintenance by experienced HVAC professionals like A.I.R. llc. With proper care, your air conditioning system can last from 15 to 20 years; a gas furnace can run for up to 25 years.
> The information provided for average life spans of HVAC equipment came from ASHRAE Equipment Life Expectancy Chart and from leading manufacturers. <
Like with many A/C problems that pop up, there is a a long term solution. A brick on top of the Condenser Fan Motor to keep the noise down is not one of them. (See attached picture). If your outdoor unit is making a loud and or unusual noise it is not normal. The HVAC Condensing unit is telling you it needs immediate help! The brick may help the problem temporarily, but the problem will still exist and will eventually cause a small problem to grow into a very large problem!
You will need a licensed Air Conditioning Contractor to make this repair, by diagnosing the root cause of the HVAC problem and making a correct long term repair! If a problem like this goes unattended it can damage many components in the air conditioning condenser unit.
Call 405-618-2247 or 405-618-2AIR for assistance if you live in Eastern Oklahoma County. We at A.I.R. would enjoy helping you solve this problem and solve any other HVAC problems you may have for your home or business.

Doing Life is tough! Doing life and dealing with all the small, but important issues is tough as well, including your Heating and Air Conditioning needs!
I’ve been asked recently about the bibical verse posted on the A.I.R. website, business cards, advertisement and service van and wanted to take a moment to explain it’s purpose.
As a Christian and follower of Christ I wanted to share my faith and values openly, inside and outside the business. The verse John 14:1 says “Do not let you hearts be troubled, trust in God and me also.” From the beginning of my desire to own and operate a business I knew it would only be successful if the Lord himself wanted it to be. And I would have to trust him no matter what with the outcome.
Also, I’m an American Patriot! When we say “In God we Trust!” I believe this country was founded on just that! That is, the Trust of the Lord himself! Our founding fathers and those that framed the constitution stepped out on faith and the trust they had in God! Not the trust in their own abilties, but in the faith and trust in their God!
I know the business itself is a blessing from God! And I know that when we do business with any of our customers it is blessing to serve you and blessing to our family from God!
And in Him and only Him do I/ we Trust!
God Bless You and America!

This picture displays an actual blower motor and blower wheel removed from a furnace. The dirt and the build up on the blower wheel is obvious. What you can’t see is the energy cost increasing everyday the furnace operates with out being cleaned and or serviced properly. The dirt build up on the blower decreases it’s designed capacity to provide sufficient air flow to your home. Which in turn does not allow the air temperature to be maintained at a comfortable and consistent level. Therefore the HVAC system runs longer and works harder to provide the desired set temperature on the thermostat. This is why the energy cost to operate it continues to climb year after year!
Another by product of a dirty blower motor and blower wheel is the reduced life of the HVAC equipment! The HVAC equipment will need to run and operate longer to meet it’s demands. HVAC equipment replacement cost are not going down, only up!
Lastly your lack of comfort is the end result! Financially and Physically!
Call 405-618-2247 today and speak to a comfort specialist at A.I.R. to discuss a semi-annual check-up of your HVAC System. It will be one of the best investments you can make in 2014.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that as much as 40% of the air flow from your Heating and Cooling System could be leaking out of your ductwork and not making it to your vents! Leaky ducts from loose duct, improper installation, pets, pests, dirt and improperly sized ductwork are some of the reasons!
Signals of potential ductwork issues include: cool and warm spots throughout the conditioned space, heating or cooling system runs all the time to keep the temperature consist in the structure, visible dirt on furniture just after being cleaned, mold around the vents, cool or warm air can be felt in the attice space or crawl space and or a moldy, damp smell is consistently present.
Your HVAC System is the biggest single energy consumer in a home.Which means you may be spending 40% too much in energy cost!
